HIDDE VAN SEGGELEN proudly presents 'It fades and fades and fades, ugh, ugh, ugh', a new exhibition of Richard Bevan. This will be Richard Bevan's first solo exhibition in Germany.

The show
will be a site specific installation of new video works, objects, photopraphs and prints that tell stories of hard-to-grasp, hard-to-articulate feelings presented in something like a legible, embracing system.

The
title of the exhibition was in part taken from the book A Lover's Discourse by Roland Barthes, in which he was concerned with how you find a communicable language for the weightless feelings that our lives often seem to hang upon and exploring the whimsical phenomenon of love. A series of 'ughs' have been added which have the rhythmic intensity of a pop song lyric, as if othersus perhaps included—are singing along to life’s bittersweet chorus. Richard Bevan notes: "I want this show to be like a love song. A love song about different kinds of broken hearts and specific broken bones".

Highly personal objects are presented to point towards the universal – a disfigured wedding ring, an inherited shell, the first attempts at writing, a black kitten. The exhibition will also be viewable at night through the gallery windows and elements may be found temporarily posted throughout Hamburg.

The exhibition will be accompanied by an essay reflecting on RIchard Bevan's work, written by Berlin based writer and critic Martin Herbert.

You are very welcome to join us for the Preview on 23 February at 6 pm. The artist will be present.

The
exhibition will be on view until 15 April 2023. Please contact the gallery for more information.
